Chapter 7 -
As a proud African American I need to ensure
that everyone is aware of the Slavery Compensation Act of 2003.
Enacted into Law by Congress, the SCA provides
for compensation of up to $30,000 for anyone whose ancestor was
enslaved within the United States.
Collection is easy, and our tax advisor will
show you how to claim your compensation by filling-out a simple
form. For a small administrative fee of only $200 we take care of
all of the paperwork and get your money on its way to you
Don’t wait. Get the money you deserve.
In this hoax/scam combination, victims were
lured into paying $200 in cash to learn how to claim their money
from the Federal government. In a very sad ending, the scammers
added insult to injury by telling the victims that their slavery
compensation money could be deducted from their income taxes.
Hundreds of misinformed taxpayers spent their tax withholding,
believing that they were receiving a windfall. The IRS was
sympathetic, but still required them to pay their taxes, along with
the required penalties and interest.
The following is an example of how anyone can
fall victim to e-mail scams. A noted Oracle DBA decided to pull a
prank with an April Fools Day hoax using his database newsletter
that reaches an audience of several thousand computer
professionals. Here is a copy of the email:
