Installation and Use of STATSPACK

This procedure is for a Windows 2000 install; however, installations on UNIX or other platforms should be nearly identical.

Create the STATSPACK tablespace (note, you cannot use the SYSTEM tablespace for STATSPACK results).

: sqlplus /nolog

SQL*Plus: Release 9.0.1.0.1 - Production on Wed Nov 7 11:11:21 2001

(c) Copyright 2001 Oracle Corporation. All rights reserved.

SQL> connect sys as sysdba
Password:
Connected.
SQL> CREATE TABLESPACE perfstat
DATAFILE ‘c:\oracle\ora9i\oradata\perfstat01.dbf’ SIZE 500m
EXTENT MANAGEMENT LOCAL UNIFORM SIZE 500k;

Tablespace created.

Run the spcreate.sql script for Oracle; it is located in the $ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/admin directory. (Note: This was called statscre.sql in previous releases.) In Oracle, it also automatically runs dbmspool.sql and dbmsjob.sql as a part of the spcusr.sql script. If you have already installed dbmspool.sql (dbms_shared_pool) and dbmsjob.sql (dbms_job), then you may wish to comment-out the calls to these packages in the spcusr.sql script. All STATSPACK scripts are located in the same directory as the spcreate.sql script, so you may wish to move them to a STATSPACK or reporting-specific directory. I have removed all of the creating-this and creating-that messages for the sake of brevity; however, you should know this script creates numerous views, tables, and packages.

SQL> @spcreate

... Installing Required Packages
... Creating PERFSTAT user

Below are the list of online tablespaces in this database.
Decide which tablespace you wish to create the STATSPACK tables
and indexes. This will also be the PERFSTAT user's default tablespace.

Specifying the SYSTEM tablespace will result in the installation
FAILING, as using SYSTEM for performance data is not supported.

TABLESPACE_NAME CONTENTS
------------------------------ ---------
DRSYS PERMANENT
INDX PERMANENT
PERFSTAT PERMANENT
RBS PERMANENT
TEMP TEMPORARY
TOOLS PERMANENT
USERS PERMANENT

7 rows selected.

Specify PERFSTAT user's default tablespace
Enter value for default_tablespace: perfstat
Using perfstat for the default tablespace

Choose the PERFSTAT user's temporary tablespace.

Specifying the SYSTEM tablespace will result in the installation
FAILING, as using SYSTEM for the temporary tablespace is not recommended.

Specify PERFSTAT user's temporary tablespace.
Enter value for temporary_tablespace: temp
Using temp for the temporary tablespace
